Erik Brunetti Interview
Joe 05.30.10
I came across a great interview today on SLAMXHYPE, with Erik Brunetti of FUCT. Over the years I haven’t kept up too much as to what was going on in the street wear world. Recently I started to gain an interest again and obviously I went back to what I knew as a kid, FUCT, SSUR, FRESHJIVE, and X-LARGE. Anyway, it seems like Erik doesn’t do a lot of interviews, so I was real stoked to find this one. You should also check out www.fuct.com it is a great blog and one that I enjoy reading from time to time. It Looks like Erik is working on a film project now. You can see a teaser on the site.
Zakka Store DUMBO NYC, Mathmatiks art show May 29, 2010
Joe 05.29.10
Last night we co-sponsored an art show at the Zakka Shop in Brooklyn. The event was hosted by Mathmatiks and the turnout was great. It featured works by Nick Kuszyk, Jade Kuei, El Kamino, Chip 7 and Pars Kid. We gave out over 100 copies of The Art of Storytelling magazine and we also released our first figure called eyeball kid which was a collaboration between The Art of Storytelling, Chip7 and sculptor Danny the Farrow. All in all it was a great night. Zakka is now carrying The Art of Storytelling Magazine as well as The Art of Storytelling DVD so if you need copies of either you can pick them up there.
Outside of the event, the shop itself is amazing. They are stacked with vinyl toys, a ton a rare books and dvd’s, clothing and more. You should definitely stop by to check this place out. Here are some flicks from the event.
TRUE HIP-HOP STORIES.
Joe 05.26.10
D-Nice has been putting out these videos for a while now, they are called True Hip-Hop Stories. I might have posted one up in the past, but Chip actually brought them to my attention once again. They are really well put together, both the video quality and content is on point. It is refreshing to watch a hip-hop interview and not listen to some thugged out bull shit. I posted the interview with YZ because it was one of my favorites but you should check them all out. He did pieces with B-Real of Cypress Hill, Doitall, Masta Ace, Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick and a bunch of others. His website is http://www.d-nice.com and you can watch all the videos on his VIMEO page.

Chip figures are in!
Joe 05.20.10
Just came home to a batch of our first figure, Eyeball Kid by Chip 7. The molds and paint job came great. The mold maker did a good job preserving all the detail which was my biggest concern. We are doing 30 figures in the black color way. We will have them at the Zakka store for May 25th’s show. I am going to stop by uncle Nooche’s house tonight an we are going to start the assembly process. Really stoked to see the finished product. I will post shots once they are fully assembled.

Metal legend Ronnie James Dio dead at 67
By Wayne Parry
Associated Press
Ronnie James Dio, whose soaring vocals, poetic lyrics and mythic tales of a never-ending struggle between good and evil broke new ground in heavy metal, died Sunday, according to a statement from his wife and manager. He was 67.
Dio revealed last summer that he was suffering from stomach cancer shortly after wrapping up a tour in Atlantic City, N.J., with the latest incarnation of Black Sabbath, under the name Heaven And Hell.
“Today my heart is broken,” Wendy Dio wrote on the singer’s site. “Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.
The statement was confirmed by publicist Maureen O’Connor, who said Dio died in Los Angeles. He had been treated at a Houston hospital, according to his site.
Dio rose to fame in 1975 as the first lead singer of Rainbow, the heavy metal band put together by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who had just quit Deep Purple. Dio then replaced legendary vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath in 1980 with the critically acclaimed album “Heaven And Hell.”
He also enjoyed a successful solo career with his self-titled band, Dio, in between his three stints with Black Sabbath, the last when the band toured as Heaven And Hell.

If you start to feel like it is taking too long to come out, that you can’t wait another day to see the book, email chris@storytellingmag.com he is facilitating all the design, email him and break his balls on a daily basis. : ) The Lineup for Book #1 is as follows:
IN THE CUT SECTION:
Artist Computer Chip 7 – Artist El Kamino – Sculptor Danny “The Farrow” – Motion Graphics Guru Danny Emrok – Actor Peter Greene
THE GET OVER SECTION:
ZEPHYR – Talks bout his early day’s as a graffiti artist, the creative environment that existed on the L.E.S of Manhattan in the early 80’s, how graffiti was transported to Europe, The Fun Gallery and much more. Zephyr took so much time to work with us on making this an amazing, one of a kind interview.
FEATURES:
JOR – Talks about his move from the graffiti world to the fashion world as a sneaker designer and now his break into the art world. This guy has reinvented himself over and over again. He is going to be the next big thing in the art world, the next street based artist to make power moves…mark my words. He is an extremely talented artist with great insight. We interviewed him on 3 separate occasions to bring you a truly great, in depth interview. Expect to see plenty of hand drawn pieces and original photography.
DALEK – Lets us in on his days as a team manager for DUFFS, how he got his start doing art, going to school in Japan, Hardcore shows, 80’s films, views on the current economic climate, his views on 2012 and the end of the world and so much more. Chip 7 has apprenticed for Dalek for a few years and he is the one who conducted the interview. Don’t expect to see generic questions, we had a true insider do the interview. Everyone will enjoy reading this one, it is not like any other DALEK interview you have ever read.
ELI GESNER – Eli laces us with photography for the early Zoo York days, photos that have never been released before of Harold Hunter, Justin Pierce, Jason Lee, Rodney Smith, Mike Hernandez, Thomas Cambell, Harmony Korine, Robbie Gangemmi and many more. Eli did a great interview for us and also gave us photo commentary for all the photos. Expect to see the photos laid out so that you can truly enjoy them. I still look at this section and can’t believe how sick it is. Classic shit.
KEN KELLY – Manowar, KISS, Frank Frezetta? Whatttt!! Ken Kelly is a legend in the art world, from Book Covers to Album Covers his images are classic. Imagine talking to your really cool uncle about how shit was back in the day. That is what it was like interviewing Ken. He told us so much crazy shit, stuff that you never could have imagined. The interview along with original photography make this section sick.
ESTEVAN ORIOL - Two and a half hours on the phone with Estevan talking about JOKER and the history of the company; how it started, all the crazy ups and downs, ships from China with $300K of clothing and no money, crazy Chinese business partners, Bankrupt Jewish business partners, working out of Starbucks. This is THE BEST SECTION IN THE BOOK… Everyone interviews Estevan about his photography so I didn’t want to do that and I am glad I didn’t because this conversation held my attention for the full two and a half hours. I didn’t cut one piece of the interview. Estevan is also working on getting us classic photography documenting the history of JOKER. I am so stoked on this interview.
THE GETUP KIDS - We spoke with Matt Pryor of The Getup Kids for this one. This was a really good last minute interview that came out of left field. The Getup Kids have undoubtedly mad a huge impact on the indie music scene and the music we listen to today. We got to ask Matt his take on the current state of indie music and we also got him to take us on a trip down memmory lane, revealing some intricite details behind the making of some of their albums. This is yet another feature with some vintage photography.
CLAYTON PATTERSON – If you haven’t heard of Clayton Patterson yet, you need to start doing your homework. Clayton has been documenting the Lower East Side of Manhattan for over 25 years. He was thrown into the public eye during the Tompkins Square Park Riots. He was one of the first people to use the consumer video camera to capture police wrongdoing. We talked to Clayton about his experiences documenting the L.E.S and also about the impact technology is having on street culture.
JONATHAN MEHRING -
THE SOAPBOX:
Method Man – CBS Crew President ANGER – Animal Bike’s Oba Stanley – MMA Legend Bas Rutten – Phat Beats owner Joseph Abajian – (3 others To be determined)

I can’t wait for the fucking online shop to be done, we have been waiting for so long to get it perfect and we are almost there. I just closed my account with Merchline after years of being with them. They are a fulfillment company out of Florida who we were using to ship our products. We are now going to be doing everything in house. They sent us all our merchandise, some stuff that I haven’t seen in years. I got the last remaining batch of The Art of Storytelling DVD’s, some Chessie System / Art of Storytelling shirts that we did with Zephyr and a bunch of other DVD’s….Dark Days, Terror in the Burbs and others. Stay tuned.
